For today’s ride I went to the end of the Katy Trail and back. It was the longest ride I have done so far. My brother Mark came with me.
I rode through SMU and passed by the Doak Walker statue to get to the trail.
I kept going and got on the trail.
There is a stopping point on the trail called Snider’s Union. You can go down the hill and play putt putt, croquet, and shuffleboard. (But you have to bring your own equipment.)
It was pretty hot and a long ride so I used up most of my water pretty quickly. I was very happy that the Katy Trail Ice House had free water outside that I could refill my water bottle with. Thanks Katy Trail Ice House! Also there is an old train car sitting right next to the Ice House.
I rode to the end of the Katy Trail and saw the American Airlines Center basketball and hockey arena. I want to see a game there some time.
Then I rode back a little ways and saw some really tall bamboo along the trail. There was bamboo along most of the trail, but I noticed it mostly here.
There was some bed rock that the trail went through along the way. I liked it because it was black and gray and different colors. I think that was my favorite part of the entire trail.
When you’re coming back almost the whole trail is uphill. I was expecting the ride back to be harder than it really was.
There are a lot more people on the Katy Trail and there are on the University Crossing and Ridgewood trails.
Then I rode back to the beginning of the trail where I started, it’s a little bit downhill.
The trail is 3.25 miles long, but altogether I rode 8.95 miles, including the piece from my house to the beginning of the trail.

Hi Sam!

Thank you. like the bamboo to.
Sam what a great way to view Dallas. I like the SMU statue of Dock Walker. Great pictures.
Thank you. The Doak Walker statue is really cool in real life.
Hi Sam. Great riding. My favorite part was the bedrock. Loved the different color layers.
Thank you. I like it to.
Hi Sam!
Thank you for such an excellent tour of the Katy Trail! I live in Charlotte, North Carolina, but way before you were born, I lived in Dallas and I would ride through SMU almost every day. Your father told me about your awesome blog. When he was just a little older than you are, I was his math teacher in Carmel, Indiana! Don’t tell him this, but he was the smartest student I ever had
Did you know there is a Katy Trail that goes clear across the state of Missouri? Maybe someday you can do that one too.
Maybe I can visit Dallas some day and we could go on a bike ride together. Don’t forget, always wear your helmet.
